We go to the doctor even when we know we won’t enjoy it, and the same is true for our Labradoodles. Our pups will never enjoy going to the vet, but it’s essential for their overall health and well-being. Thankfully, there are ways you can decrease your Labradoodle’s stress and make the trip to the vet a more pleasant experience for both of you.
Visit the vet outside your typical appointments
When you only take your Labradoodle to the vet for their appointments, they will associate that place with being poked and prodded. However, if you take them to the vet on other days, they’ll learn it’s not always a place to dread. May veterinary offices allow owners to bring their pets into the waiting room to receive treats and pets as they get used to things.
Play with them or walk them in the hours before the appointment
Many dogs will have some amount of nervous energy when they enter the vet’s office. You can help burn some of this off by playing with them or walking them in the hours before their appointment.
Get them used to being handled
Dogs don’t like the vet because they are manhandled, and no one likes that! However, if you get your dog used to it, they’ll be less anxious or aggressive. Start by holding your dog’s paws, then their legs and belly. If they do well with you, they will be better able to handle it at the vet.
